PORTLAND — Jane B. Hasson, 72, of Portland, died Jan. 7, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Portland on Oct. 1, 1941, daughter of Katherine Donovan Hasson and John Hasson Sr. She grew up in Portland and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. She was a licensed histologic technician and worked at Maine Medical Center and Brighton Medical Center. Later in life she resided at Deering Pavilion in Portland.

She was a woman of diverse interests including travel, music and art. She often recalled her visit to Rome as her favorite trip. She sang in the church choir for many years and surrounded herself with music, especially classical pieces. In her later years, she took up painting, which gave her much joy.

A true Maine native, she especially enjoyed the outdoors during winter. She fondly recalled the fun she had skating on Harvey’s Pond and sledding down Madison Street when she was a young child. She was later a regular skier at Sugarloaf.

Hasson was a devout Catholic. More importantly, however, was how she exemplified the Christian spirit. Throughout her life, even at times when she did not have much, she insisted on giving to those in need.

She is survived by two brothers, John Hasson, of South Portland, and David Hasson, of Portland; two sisters, Elizabeth Plourde and husband, Robert, and Elaine Thornton, of Portland; and several nieces and nephews.
