WELLS — Plans are under way in Wells to once again celebrate the Week of the Young Child, April 6-12.

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration coordinated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, an early childhood association with nearly 100,000 members and a network of more than 300 local, state and regional affiliates.

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

The theme for the Week of the Young Child is “Early Years are Learning Years.”

Children’s programs in Wells will be celebrating the week by displaying children’s artwork at sites throughout the community. The artwork is created by children enrolled at the following Wells programs: Adventures in Learning, Cranton-Thomes Day School, The Learning Place, Busy Feet Daycare, Laugh and Learn Preschool, Roots and Wings Preschool, Brilliant Bloomers, Friends First at the Morrison Center of Wells, Be Happy Preschool and Wells Elementary School.

The art displays will be available for viewing April 6-11 at: The Children’s Room at the Wells Public Library; Kennebunk Savings, 49 Sanford Road; People’s United Bank, 1597 Post Road; Sanford Institution for Savings, 1149 Post Road; and PeoplesChoice Credit Union, 774 Post Road. Artwork by the Wells Elementary School kindergartners will be on display at the school.

The Brick Store Museum Program Center, 117 Main St. in Kennebunk, will be the site for a final display on Saturday, April 12.
