BIDDEFORD — Dolores P. “Dolly” Roy, 86, of Biddeford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 7, 1927 in Biddeford, the daughter of Arthur J. and Blanche A. (Gagne) Peloquin, and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School.

On July 28, 1947, she was wed to Roland R. Roy, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage and raised five beautiful children.

During her earlier years of employment, Dolores worked for both the Biddeford City Clerk’s Office, where she served as deputy city clerk, and the Tax Assessor’s Office. She was later employed as a teacher’s aide at Kennedy School and also volunteered at St. James School, positions that brought her much joy, as she loved working with young children and had a gift for making each one of them feel special.

In her retirement years, she accepted a part-time office position with St. Andre’s Group Home in Biddeford. She was a conscientious and valued employee throughout her life.

She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She also volunteered for the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Joseph’s Church. A member of St. Joseph’s Church, she was active in several prayer groups and the church choir.

Dolores lived by the creed, “God, family and friends.” Known by many as “The Rosary Lady,” her faith and dedication to her church, family and friends was an inspiration to all who knew her. Dolores’ entire life was faith-centered and she always referred to her children as “my five blessings.” She loved her children unconditionally and was a trusted and loyal friend to many.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Roland Roy; and her sister, Jacqueline Neveux.

Dolores is survived by: Three daughters, Michèle R. Labonte and her husband Leon of Saco, Suzanne L. Roy of Scarborough and Lise-Marie Manoogian and her husband Charles of Fryeburg; two sons, Guy R. Roy and his wife Denise of Biddeford and Joseph A. Roy and his wife Joanne of Portland; two brothers, Guy Peloquin and his wife Carol of Biddeford and Paul Peloquin and his wife Jeannine of Cape Neddick; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

We love you Dolores, “Dolly,” “Mom,” “Mama,” “Mémère,” “Grandmaman,” “Rosary Lady,” and your passing leaves a large, sad void in our hearts and in our lives. May you now find peace, joy and love, resting in the palm of God’s hand.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 21 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford followed by a committal service in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
