Carmen Footer, one of the three Freeport Flag Ladies, was back on duty Tuesday morning alongside her sister, Claudia Eckert, who has been holding the flag on Tuesdays since Footer’s absence, along with fellow Flag Ladies JoAnn Miller and Elaine Greene.

A good turnout of supporters was on hand, according to the Freeport Flag Ladies Facebook Page.

Footer, 72, returned to the home the three share on School Street a week after she underwent heart surgery on March 21. The Flag Ladies have been standing on the same corner on Main Street in Freeport every Tuesday morning since the week after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.

Carmen Footer, right, with her sister Claudia Eckert, returned to her accustomed spot with the Freeport Flag Ladies on Tuesday morning, for the first time since she underwent heart surgery on March 21.
