WOOLWICH — Harriet Methel Hay, 94, of Woolwich, died April 27 at her home, with her family by her side.

She was born in Blanchard, March 13, 1920, the daughter of Guy B. and Addie F. Scribner. She grew up in and graduated from South Paris High School, Class of 1937. After graduation, she married her best friend, James Russell Hay, and the couple resided in Madison. She moved to Standish while her husband was in the military and upon his return, the couple moved to Bath for a short time before taking a permanent residence in Woolwich.

Hay was a woman with many talents, she was employed as the principal’s secretary at Wiscasset High School, a “Rosie the Riveter” and she worked for Bath Iron Works as a stenographer for 22 years, retiring in 1982. First and foremost she was a mom, nothing came before her family. She always took part in her children’s life, she was a den mother in the Cub Scouts, and volunteered for the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She had a passion for music, as a clarinet player, she was a member of the Bath Municipal Band for over 25 years. She also loved bowling; and was proud she rolled a perfect game.

She was predeceased by her husband; six sisters; and two brothers.

She is survived by a son, Earl Hay, of Woolwich; daughter, Janet Lufkin and husband, George, of Brunswick; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bath Area Senior Citizens, 45 Floral St., Bath, ME, 04530.

A funeral service was held May 1 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, Bath.
