The Maine Maritime Academy training ship is on its way to Iceland and Europe.
The 500-foot State of Maine departed Wednesday from Castine for the annual training cruise for students. Stops will include Trieste, Italy; Keil, Germany; and Reykjavik, Iceland.
The training cruise is an annual tradition that gives students hands-on training.
Capt. Leslie Eadie III, of Brewer, is skipper of the vessel, which was a Navy oceanographic research vessel before being converted in 1997 to accommodate students’ training needs.
