Old Orchard Beach High School announces its top 10 students in the Class of 2014. Graduation is slated for Sunday, June 8, 2 p.m., at the Salvation Army Seaside Pavillion.

Shania Evangelista

Shania Evangelista, daughter of Rhonda and Enecieto Evangelista, is the valedictorian of the Class of 2014. She is active not only in her school activities but in her community. Inducted into the National Honor Society during her junior year, she was elected as president of their chapter for her senior year. She also served as treasurer for the Class of 2014, and as a member of the Interact Club. She was the lead trumpet player for the Old Orchard Beach High School marching band, jazz band and concert band, while also taking part in the jazz choir. As well, she is completing her 15th year at Steppin’ Out Dance Centre, as a student and an instructor. This fall, she will be attending the College of Engineering at the University of Maine in Orono, to pursue a degree in chemical engineering with a focus in renewable energies.

Sarah Jenkins

Sarah Jenkins, daughter of Michael and C.J. Jenkins, will be graduating as the salutatorian of the Class of 2014. She will be a third generation OOBHS alumnus, as her grandparents graduated in 1954 and her parents in 1981. Over the years, she has been an active member of the Interact Club, Student Council, Spanish club, prom committee, yearbook staff, and she was class president all four years. She was inducted into the National Honor Society in the fall of 2013 for her academic achievements, leadership and service to the community. Also in the spring of 2014, Sarah received the Western Maine Conference Citizenship award. She has also participated in many varsity and club sports including soccer, indoor soccer, ski club, tennis, volleyball and field hockey, receiving the Captain’s Award. In addition to her academic excellence, and extensive involvement in extracurricular activities, she also clocked nearly 90 hours of community service. In the fall, she will be attending the University of Maine at Farmington, majoring in elementary education with the intention of returning to teach in her hometown.

Joe Bourgault

Joe Bourgault, son of Michael and Janice Bourgault, is graduating third in his class. He was a member of the football team his senior year. Joe was a class officer for three years, switching from treasurer to secretary after his sophomore year. He will attend college in the fall.

Mykala Geaumont

Mykala Elizabeth Geaumont is the daughter of Karen and Ronald Geau-mont and is graduating fourth in the class. Mykala is a member of the National Honor Society, the yearbook staff and Natural Helpers, and is co-president of the Interact Club. She received the Bowdoin Book Award and the Western Maine Conference Citizenship Award. Mykala played field hockey for three years as well as softball for two years. This year, she was one of the three captains for softball. Mykala will be joining the U.S. Army upon graduation.

Kayley Allen

Kayley Allen, daughter of Jane and John Allen, is the last of her three siblings to graduate from Old Orchard Beach High School. She’s been a four-year member of the jazz choir, and was co-president of the school’s Interact Club her senior year. She was inducted into the National Honor Society in her junior year, and served as treasurer during her senior year, along with being a co-editor for the school’s Oceana Yearbook. Kayley will be attending Endicott College in the fall to pursue a degree in elementary education.

Kaitlyn Gagnon

Kaitlyn Gagnon, daughter of Eric and Beth Gagnon, has been active in marching band, jazz band, jazz choir, tennis, Interact Club, French club, prom committee and yearbook committee. She also completed an American Sign Language class at Biddeford’s McArthur Public Library. Next year, she will be studying psychology at Eastern Nazarene College.

Amanda Palkovic

Amanda Palkovic is the eldest daughter of Laura and Gregory Palkovic and is graduating seventh in the Class of 2014 from Old Orchard Beach High School. Amanda was involved in activities like prom committee and Natural Helpers. She was co-president of the Interact Club, and co-editor of the yearbook. Her senior year, she received the Coaches Award in varsity basketball and was one of three captains of the varsity softball team. Her junior year, she was chosen as Saco Bay Rotary’s student of the month and was inducted into the National Honors Society her senior year. Amanda will be attending the University of New Hampshire this fall, majoring in psychology.

Elissa Chard

Elissa Chard is the daughter of Thomas and Elise Chard and older sister of Emilie Chard. She has received honors for every quarter since freshman year, and has maintained a 93 average throughout her high school career. She has played field hockey for Old Orchard Beach High School her freshman, sophomore and junior years, being put on varsity her freshman year. She was elected captain of the team for the 2013 season. She was awarded the Dartmouth Alumni Award in the spring of 2013 along with student of the month in the current school year, which are only a few among many other awards that she has received. She has been involved in the Interact Club for the past four years and has gotten most of her community service from her membership. She has also been a part of the National Honor Society, yearbook committee, prom committee and National Helpers Club. She enjoys helping out in the community and does so whenever she gets the chance. Elissa will be attending Southern Maine Community College in the fall for graphic design.

Peter Paolucci

Peter Paolucci, son of Kate and Peter Paolucci, has focused on learning about computer hardware and software during his high school career and has successfully built his own desktop PC that is capable of high amounts of processing power. He has been learning about computer programming and how to write software meant for websites and specific computer functions. In school, he was part of the drama club, mainly doing the technical work for a few productions. He plans to attend the University of Southern Maine to earn a bachelor’s degree in computer science and pursue a career in the video game industry as a programmer.

Sabryna Deshaies

Sabryna Deshaies, daughter of Paula and Daniel Deshaies, is an active student within her community. At OOBHS, she held positions in a variety of organizations, including as treasurer of student council, vice president of the Class of 2014, and a member of the Interact Club and jazz choir. She was also a student mentor and a member of the group that successfully promoted the smoke-free beaches resolution in the town. Sabryna is concluding her 16th year of dance at Steppin’ Out Dance Centre as a student and dance instructor. This fall, she will be attending Endicott College, majoring in business management and minoring in dance, in hopes of someday opening her own dance studio.
