Seven injured people were taken to local hospitals and Route 1 in Yarmouth was shut down for more than a hour Sunday evening after two cars collided near the Interstate 295 southbound exit ramp.

Sgt. Kevin Pedersen of the Yarmouth Police Department said it appears that the driver of a car attempting to turn from the exit ramp onto Route 1 failed to yield and struck the second car, which was heading north on Route 1.

The towns of Falmouth, Yarmoouth. Cumberland and Freeport sent ambulances to the crash site. None of those hurt in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries, Pederson said.

The names of the drivers and the injured were not immediately released by Yarmouth police. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The accident was reported at 5:44 p.m.
