Your editorial about the current Veterans Affairs Department’s problems told it like it is (“Our View: VA chief’s departure won’t resolve problems,” June 2). You truly showed the courage to put the blame where it lies.

The House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees surely must have known what was going on with veterans’ medical appointments.

I happen to be an advocate for veterans and their families in the Brunswick-Topsham area. You are right when you challenge U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, who happens to be the top House Democrat on the Veterans Affairs Committee. That means he represents not only Maine veterans, but also every veteran in this country.

You know, I often wonder why people are picked to serve on veterans’ committees who are not veterans themselves. You can’t tell me that high-profile Sen. John McCain didn’t know what was going on in Arizona.
