EAST BOOTHBAY – Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences is celebrating its 40th anniversary in East Boothbay.

The marine science institute will welcome Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, and other speakers to its campus for the Friday anniversary event. King will provide the keynote speech.

Laboratory tours and a reception will follow.

Other speakers will include Henry Bryant Bigelow’s granddaughter Mary Bigelow. The laboratory is named for Henry Bryant Bigelow, a scientist and oceanographer.

The nonprofit laboratory’s studies range from microbial oceanography to the dynamics of the worldwide ocean.

The event begins at 2:30 p.m. and is open only to those who have been invited.
