A Portland woman does not quite have the coolest name in the sport of running, according to an online contest sponsored by an international running magazine.

Runner’s World magazine on Monday announced – through a posting on its website – that Tripp Hurt, a steeple chaser who attends Furman University in South Carolina, defeated competitive road racer Gretchen Speed, 33, of Portland, for the right to claim “The Best Name in Running.”

According to the magazine, Hurt received 2,654 votes to Speed’s 1,471 votes in the championship round.

Hurt defeated Maverick Darling and Speed beat out Michael Atchoo to make it to the championship. Voting ended Sunday night.

A total of 32 athletes’ names were entered the contest, including Olympian Usain Bolt of Jamaica.
