FREEPORT — Robert William Klauss, age 73, died at a local hospital on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.

He was born Jan. 28, 1941, in Montclair, NJ, the son of William Klauss and Mabel Hayes Klauss. He graduated from high school in 1959. He married Nancy Jean Berube in Seabrook, NH, on Dec. 31, 1995.

Though a quiet and private man, he had driven delivery for several seafood vendors in Maine as a younger man. He volunteered, encouraged through his involvement with the First Baptist Church of Freeport and the Yarmouth Church of the Nazarene, in local nursing homes, including Hawthorne House and Freeport Place.

He had an enthusiastic appetite for most any food. When he had been able, he also derived pleasure in the kitchen preparing meals for himself and his wife. He had a very special place in his heart for his three cats, who came to him late in life.

He is survived by his wife Nancy of Freeport; six daughters, Christine Favreau and her husband Scott of Brunswick, Karyn Oppedisano of Topsham, Jennifer Wallace and her husband Jim of San Diego, CA, Kimberly Thibault and her husband Frank of Manchester, NH, Erin Berube and her companion Thomas Belanger of Greenland, NH, Elizabeth Bennett and her husband Mike of New Market, NH; a sister Carol Struss of Roseland, NJ; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Freeport, 185 Main St., Freeport, ME, with the Rev. Sandy Williams officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
