PHIPPSBURG — Gloria Jean Phillips, 73, of Phippsburg, passed away at home peacefully on Aug. 5, 2014, with family by her side. She was born on Dec. 15, 1940, the daughter of Irene and Sewall Waltz. She was the youngest of 11 children.

She grew up in Newcastle where she attended school and was in the class of 1959 at Lincoln Academy.

She moved to Bath and worked in a factory before being hired at Renys department store. She worked at Renys for 20-plus years, serving as a manager for several of those years. She was a parttime bartender for the American Legion Post 21 in Bath. She then worked at Hillhouse Assisted Living as a housekeeper and dietary aide for a while before retiring.

Gloria has been a member of the American Legion Post 21 in Bath for 30 years and became a lifetime member. She was the American Legion Auxiliary member of the year in 2010 for the state of Maine.

Gloria was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Tom (Scotty) Phillips; brothers, Carroll Waltz, Henry Waltz and Aubrey Waltz; grandson, Michael Myles Davis; and sister-in-law, Suzie Phillips.

She is survived by children, Arlene Tanger and husband Leo of Bath, Noreen Alexander and husband Mark of Phippsburg, Rick Gagne and longtime companion Jessica Confer of Bath, and Lisa Moore and husband Danny of Brunswick; stepson, Christopher Phillips of Barstow, Calif.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Priscilla Hatch, Gertrude Pinkham, Margaret Russell and Judy Campbell; brothers, Raymond Waltz, Robert Waltz and Frank Waltz Sr.; brother in-law, Charles Phillips of Topsham; and sister-in-law, Ann Lehman and husband Ralph of Bandera, Texas.

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, at the American Legion Post 21, 200 Congress Ave., Bath.
