Carole (Orr) was born and raised in Woolwich and attended schools in Woolwich and Bath, including Morse High School. She was one of six children born to the late Edward and Ruth (Reed) Orr and was the beloved wife of Richard “Shorty” Marsh for over 52 years. Carole and Shorty lived in West Bath for a short time, raising their family in Bath and Woolwich before moving to Dresden. They were members of Small Point Baptist Church in Phippsburg.
Her interests included visiting family and friends with Shorty, and they also enjoyed camping in their recreational vehicle. She was quite a candlepin bowler and was a skilled painter of ceramics. Carole would spend hours at her dining room table working on picture puzzles and was always ready for a game of Scrabble or Yahtzee. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed doing word puzzles. Carole continued to watch Wheel of Fortune right up until her passing. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a person of generous spirit and compassionate heart, and someone who always placed others above herself.
In addition to her husband Shorty Marsh, Carole is survived by her four children and their spouses, son Richard Marsh and wife Nicole of Plano, Texas, son Shawn Marsh and wife Kelly of Saco, son Scott Marsh and partner Elaine Bell of Dresden, and daughter Lisa Marsh of Augusta. She will forever be remembered by her devoted siblings and their spouses, sister Barbara Bennett and husband Chris of Topsham, sister Arlene Munsey and husband Harvey of Sebasco, sister Faye Larabee of Phippsburg, brother Edward “Bub” Orr Jr. and wife Wanda of Arrowsic, brother Darrell Orr and wife Sandy of Lisbon. Carole absolutely loved children and was “Nana” to her grandchildren Devin and Daniel Marsh, Cali, Ricky and Salli Marsh, Hasson and Shane Skehan, and Allison Marsh. In addition to raising her four children, Carole was always eager to babysit the children of her family and friends throughout her life.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery at #338 Route 128 in Woolwich (Day’s Ferry). A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington St. in Bath.
