NORTH YARMOUTH — A survey of residents’ views on economic development and the future of two key town properties will be available Saturday, Sept. 6, at the annual Fun Day celebration.

Planning Decisions, a Portland consulting firm hired by the town, plans to present North Yarmouth officials with the survey language. The anonymous poll can be completed electronically at a Fun Day station, but could also be available online for a month, Town Manager Rosemary Roy said Aug. 20.

Residents may be asked about economic development in North Yarmouth; what should be done with North Yarmouth Memorial School, which School Administrative District 51 closed in June and turned over to the town, and the property left vacant after fire destroyed Wescustogo Hall a year ago.

The Board of Selectmen on Aug. 19 extended Planning Decisions’s contact through Jan. 1, 2015. The firm will recommend options to the town, which resident could vote on at a special Town Meeting early next year.

Fun Day activities

This year’s Fun Day will feature new games, bungee jumping and larger-than-ever inflatables.

A pancake breakfast at the fire station will be held from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Served by the North Yarmouth Congregational Church Men’s Group, the meal will cost $6 per person, and $4 for children under 12.

A first-ever 5K trail run or walk will be held at Skyline Farm, 95 The Lane, at 8 a.m. Participants can sign up ahead of the event for $15 at running4free.com, and for $20 from 6:30-7:30 a.m. the day of the race. Email info@skylinefarm.org or call Jennifer Robbins 415-6830 for more information.

The Fun Day Parade starts at Fat Andy’s Hardwood at 373 Walnut Hill Road at 9:30 a.m., and winds up on Route 115 at the Village Green. Call Jess Dyer at 829-8328 to participate.

The opening ceremony will be held at Village Green at 9:45 a.m., with American Legion Post 91 presenting the colors and Katie Murphy being honored as the 2014 Distinguished Citizen of the Year.

Things kick into high gear at 10 a.m., with a bungee jumper, inflatable obstacle courses, bounce houses, and other games for kids. The North Yarmouth Fire Company, the North Yarmouth Historical Society, Walnut Hill Garden Club, Boy Scouts Troop 58 and Cumberland Youth Lacrosse will serve food. Sausage sandwiches, Italian ice and kettle corn will also be available.

Later events include a diaper derby at 10:30 a.m., magician The Great Stephan at 11 a.m., music and karaoke by DJ Mixx at noon, the “Party Palooga Balloon Show” at 12:30 p.m., comedian Colby Bradshaw at 1:30 p.m., a firefighters’ muster on Route 115, next to the Village Green, at 2 p.m., a kids’ muster at 3:30 p.m., and a bean supper at the fire station at 5 p.m.
