ELLSWORTH — Maine fishery officials are set to host the last of three meetings with fishermen and the public about the proposed rules for the 2014-15 scallop season.

Officials say they want to shut down several waterways to scallop fishing in the upcoming season as they attempt to rebuild the fishery. The 2014-15 proposal maintains the number of fishing days from last season. Department of Marine Resources Commissioner Patrick Keliher says he expects to have to cut days if scallops become too heavily depleted during the season, which starts in December.

The last of the three public hearings is scheduled for Thursday at Ellsworth City Hall. Keliher will make a final ruling on the proposed rules before the season starts.
