Mainers are known for being good neighbors. We take pride in our communities and understand the importance of helping those around us when they are struggling.

A recent ad from the Republican Governors Association attacks Democratic Rep. Mike Michaud for his support of immigrants in Maine. The insensitivity displayed in this ad is alarming and doesn’t reflect the compassionate values Mainers share.

With our election just weeks away, it’s vital that we vote for a candidate who respects and acts on these values. Rep. Michaud’s record demonstrates his focus on community and acceptance of different groups of people. As governor, he’ll continue to support all of our neighbors instead of devaluing them and their needs.

I am upset that this ad portrays Mainers as having such negative attitudes toward our community. I know Michaud will represent my state and advocate for my community in a way that makes me proud.
