Maine Country Music Hall of Fame member Betty Gribbin passed away on Saturday, Aug. 16. She was one of the first six members elected to the Hall of Fame in 1978 and 1979.

Betty was the ninth Maine Hall of Famer we have lost this year and the ninth in the past two months. Betty was a personal friend of mine for many years, and she can never be replaced or forgotten by her many fans and friends in the country music scene throughout New England and the Maritimes.

Carole Ann and I were fortunate to be able to spend two hours with her shortly before her death, at St. Joseph’s Rehab facility in Portland. She was the same Betty who I have known for so many years, and was her wonderful, lighthearted self the entire time we were there. She was able to take several phone calls from well-wishers.

God bless you, Betty. Rest in peace with your Lord.

Slim Andrews, chairman, Maine Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum
