A former Biddeford attorney who committed multiple misconduct violations has been suspended from practicing law in Maine for four and a half years, the Board of Overseers of the Bar announced Friday.

Scott D. Giese has already been suspended from practicing law under a temporary order issued on April 4, following a discipline petition filed against him by the Board of Overseers of the Bar.

Had Giese been suspended for more than five years, he would have been disbarred altogether. After his term of suspension expires on May 12, 2019, he could petition for reinstatement after paying restitution to the Lawyer’s Fund for Client Protection to cover money the fund paid out to his clients affected by his misconduct.

Several former clients filed complaints against Giese in January for his failures, ranging from neglect, excessive fees and failure to communicate. A former employee of his firm also filed a complaint that he had failed to pay wages in a timely fashion.
