A Portland man was arrested Friday night for selling heroin from his room at the YMCA at 70 Forest Ave., the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said Saturday.

Frank Gerry, 43, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Friday by MDEA agents and charged with unlawful trafficking in Schedule W drugs, or heroin.

In a press release, MDEA Cmdr. Scott Pelletier said the agency received information from several sources that a man operating a black Acura TL and living in Room 336 at the YMCA was selling heroin from his automobile and the room.

Agents knocked on Gerry’s apartment door. He opened the door holding several small bags of heroin, apparently expecting a customer, Pelletier said.

During a search of the room, agents seized more than an ounce of heroin, an electronic scale and packaging materials. The value of the heroin was about $8,000, Pelletier said. He said no items were seized from the Acura.

Gerry was being held Saturday at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland on $10,000 bail.
