A man from the Penobscot County town of Corinna was arrested this week and charged with burglary and the theft of 11 guns, as has a 17-year-old alleged accomplice, police said.

Police arrested David Ireland, 53. He is not the man by the same name who recently shut down a contracting business that was to convert home heating systems to natural gas.

The pair is accused of breaking into a house 66 miles away from Corinna, on Reid Road in Salem Township near Kingfield in Franklin County. The victim reported the burglary this month and police got a break in the case last week when Newport police Lt. Randy Wing learned that Ireland had pawned one of the guns at a local shop.

Maine State Police troopers searched Ireland’s house but did not find the guns.

Ireland was scheduled to have his initial court appearance Wednesday.

Police asked that anyone with information about the missing guns call 624-7076.
