The recent revelations of the extent and forms of torture committed in the name of the United States have generated widespread shock and indignation.

I believe nothing less is warranted than the appointment of a special prosecutor, a la Watergate, to investigate the actions and culpability of those who authorized and promoted the inhumane acts of torture that the CIA oversaw. This investigation should include those in the highest levels of government, such as Dick Cheney, who even to this day seems unrepentant of the possible war crimes he helped instigate.

There is now an ugly stain on the honor and credibility of the United States. Only a full investigation of what happened and appropriate justice meted out to those found guilty of war crimes can help restore faith in America throughout the world.
