With two dominating performances, the Cheverus High boys’ and girls’ hockey teams swept the City Cup for the second straight year, beating the Portland/Deering teams Thursday afternoon at the Troubh Ice Arena.

The Stags boys’ team beat Portland/Deering 7-0, and the Cheverus girls won 6-1.

In the boys’ game, Cheverus remained unbeaten (6-0-1) by outshooting the Portland/Deering (3-5) 52-15.

Chris Vallee and Jimmy Hannigan each had two goals and an assist for the Stags. Cam Dube, Matt O’Leary and Jesse Cyr-Brophy also scored for Cheverus.

Stags goalie Kyle Severance recorded his first shutout of the year.

Portland/Deering goalie Alex Girsch had 45 saves. He kept the game close with 17 first-period saves, keeping the score 1-0. Cheverus pulled away with four second-period goals.

Forward Dom Tocci was named the Portland/Deering MVP of the game, and Vallee received the award for Cheverus.

Both teams next play on Saturday, with the Stags at Biddeford, while Portland/Deering is away against Scarborough.

GIRLS’ HOCKEY

CHEVERUS 6, PORTLAND/DEERING 1: Jill Hannigan scored four goals for the Stags (4-6). Olivia added two goals.

Ebba Eriksso scored for Portland/Deering (1-9).

Hannigan was named the City Cup MVP for Cheverus. Sinead Scott received the award for Portland/Deering.
