LONDON — Actor-comedian Stephen Fry says he is getting married – and is “very, very happy” even though his hopes of a private wedding have been dashed. Fry, who is 57, and 27-year-old partner Elliott Spencer gave formal notice of their plans to wed at the register office in Dereham, eastern England.

Fry tweeted Tuesday: “I’m very, very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance.”

Fry gained fame in the 1980s in a comedy duo with Hugh Laurie, and is one of Britain’s best-known television presenters.
