BIDDEFORD — Sister Pauline Lamirande, formerly known as Sister St. Yolande of Jesus, died at St. Joseph Convent on Jan. 14 at the age of 90.

Sister Pauline was born in Biddeford on July 31, 1924, to William Lamirande and Emma Valliere Lamirande.

Pauline was the third oldest child in a family of six children. She received her elementary and secondary education in the schools of St. Joseph Parish, Biddeford. She completed her high school education with the American School. After her novitiate, she studied in Quebec at the Mother House and began her studies of music at Laval University in Quebec and Sherwood Music School, Chicago.

On Aug. 25, 1940, Sister Pauline entered the Congregation of the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, in Biddeford.

Sister taught piano lessons and directed choirs in Maine and Massachusetts for 22 years. She taught elementary school for 21 years in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She also taught elementary school for six years in Old Town. She shared her gift of music in the community for over 70 years as an accomplished musician on both piano and organ.

Sister is survived by: a sister, Rita Lamirande Hammer of Rochester, New Hampshire; and a brother, Robert Lamirande of Salem, New Hampshire.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, Jan. 15 from 6-8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool Street in Biddeford. The Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Joseph Convent on Friday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. The burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
