ALBANY, N.Y. — Two more Eastern states have agreed to collaborate with four others in investigations of heroin trafficking that often cross state lines.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Maine and Maryland have joined the task force established last year to pursue drug rings regionally.

The task force members have agreed to share information, which could include identification of traffickers, stash houses and phone numbers gathered from wiretaps, informants and cooperating witnesses.

The task force is intended to create the formal framework for sharing information, which investigators may have done informally.

Maine Attorney General Janet Mills says cheap, readily available heroin is killing her state’s youth and they need to work together to stem the supply.

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh says this public health crisis demands creative solutions.
