PORTLAND — Police are looking for a woman they said was unsuccessful in an attempt to steal cigarettes from the 7-Eleven store at 27 Washington Ave. early Wednesday morning.
Lt. James Sweatt said the woman asked a store clerk for a carton of cigarettes, then tried to spray him with pepper spray, before biting him on the hand after he grabbed her. The incident happened around 1:15 a.m.
“Other than the bite to the hand, no one was seriously injured,” Sweatt said, adding the suspect fled without the cigarettes. She is described as in her 30s, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, with dark hair and weighing 140 pounds. She was last seen wearing a tan coat, blue jeans and a winter hat.
Anyone with information about the alleged robbery attempt is asked to call 874-8584 or text 274637, using the key word “GOTCHA.”
