BUCKSPORT – Maine’s Bureau of Labor Standards is looking into whether a shuttered paper mill has paid all of the severance owed to machinists who worked at the facility.
A spokeswoman for the bureau said Monday the review of Verso Paper Corp. is ongoing.
The International Association of Aerospace Workers and Machinists says Verso erred when it calculated the amount of severance owed to workers at the Bucksport mill.
Machinist union vice president Brian Simpson told Maine Public Broadcasting Network the union believes the company owes $350,000 to its members. Verso says it has correctly followed the law.
The mill’s December closure put more than 500 workers out of a job.
