BANGOR — A high school teacher who died in an apparent suicide over the weekend solicited nude photos from a student at the school, according to details of a search warrant that was issued as part of a child pornography investigation involving John Bapst teacher Jeremiah Gorman, WCSH-TV reported Monday.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from a Glenburn resident who believed that her daughter was having sexual conversations on two cellphone apps with an adult, according to the Portland TV station.

Authorities subpoenaed computer IP addresses from Mid Maine Communications and FairPoint Communications and determined the adult was Gorman, 35, a social sciences teacher at John Bapst Memorial High School.

According to an affidavit, the girl, a student at the school, sent nude photographs of herself to Gorman at his request, WCSH reported.

Officials at John Bapst confirmed on Saturday that Gorman was found dead after searches of his home and classroom on Friday.

Head of School Mel MacKay expressed “shock and distress” in a message to the school community.

John Bapst’s website said Gorman earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Miami University in Ohio.
