A crew from Unitil was working to repair a natural-gas leak that was reported in the vicinity of Portland and Alder streets Monday night. The leak originated in the area between Bubba’s Sulky Lounge and the Preble Street Resource Center.
Portland police Sgt. Jake Titcomb said the leak was reported around 6 p.m. Titcomb said he was told by Unitel that it could take as long as eight hours to fix the leak.
Both streets were shut down for a brief period, but have since reopened to traffic. No homes or businesses had to be evacuated, Titcomb said.
