SACO — Arlene “Kippy” Mitchell, 90, of Balsam Drive, Hallowell, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, after a short stay at MaineGeneral Medical Center and Maine Veterans Home, Augusta.

Kippy was born in Dixfield on Aug. 29, 1924, the youngest daughter of Conie A. and Lena Belle (Newman) Masterman. She attended local schools before graduating in nursing from Maine Medical Center in Portland in 1945.

She married Arthur Mitchell in 1957. She lived in Saco next door to her sister, Maxine, for 50 years before moving with Maxine to Granite Hills Estates in 2007.

She was employed for many years by the Webber Hospital and Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, from which she retired in 1985.

Kippy is preceded in death by: her husband, Arthur, in 1998; and her two sisters, Maxine Sait in 2014, and Barbara Larabee in 1992.

Kippy is survived by: her nephews, James Sait and his wife Linda of Rancho Cordova, California, David Sait and his wife Claudia of Readfield, Larry Larrabee of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and James Larrabee of Williams, Oregon; and nieces, Brenda Jakabecy and her husband James of Lake Wiley, South Carolina, and Jan Ilch and her husband David of Chesterfield, Virginia.

Kippy was a devoted wife and aunt to her nieces and nephews, and she also enjoyed quilting, traveling, and following baseball, golf, tennis, politics and world affairs.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful staff at Granite Hill Estates, as well as the doctors, nurses and staff at MaineGeneral Medical Center and Hospice, and Maine Veterans Home for their care and compassion that they showed to Kippy during her stay.

There will be no visiting or services at this time. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Ferry Road, Saco.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to your favorite charity in Kippy’s name.
