A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a deer on Cape Road in Standish early Wednesday morning.

Wade Kennedy, 18, of Standish broke multiple bones and suffered a head injury as a result of the 7:23 a.m. crash, according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Kennedy’s Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle struck the deer, then left the road, struck a tree and was thrown into a telephone utility box on the roadside, the release said. He was wearing a helmet.

The sheriff’s office cautioned drivers to be extra vigilant for animals on the roadways.
