Starting today, our website will display Portland Press Herald front pages published on the same date 50 years ago.

The first, from May 1, 1965, covers news of revolts in the Dominican Republic, the war in Vietnam and a strike at a South Portland plant.

These pages have been scanned from our microfilm archives, which contain the entire history of the Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram – then the Portland Sunday Telegram.

Website readers will see a copy of each day’s front page. We hope you find these glimpses into the past as fascinating as we do.
