PORTLAND — BikeMaine, the seven-day, 350-mile cycling adventure that celebrates the people, places, culture and food of Maine, has announced a new promotion celebrating the voices of cyclists from around the world.
As part of an online contest, BikeMaine will be giving away a free registration to the ride and a $500 cash prize. The third annual BikeMaine ride will take place from Sept. 12-19 and includes overnight stays in Kittery, Old Orchard Beach, Bridgton, Bethel, Sweden and Kennebunk.
“The 2015 route has something for everyone,” said Kim True, BikeMaine ride director. “From the sandy beaches of the southern coast to the rugged White Mountains of Western Maine, riders will discover the vast and diverse beauty that makes up the region of the state we are exploring this year.”
Contest participation is simple, with entrants submitting a short, 30-60 second video about why they would like to ride BikeMaine. Semi-finalists will be selected by judges, with the winner being chosen by popular vote on social media. The winner will also create and collect video, stories and pictures leading up to and during the week of the ride so their story can be shared with future riders.
The route features varying terrain from the coast to the mountains with daily distances averaging 55 miles and additional 15-20 mile loop options. Participation is limited to 350 riders to ensure an intimate and community-focused experience. Meals are prepared with high-quality local and seasonal ingredients, and entertainment, including Maine music, comedy and dance, is provided each evening.
BikeMaine is produced by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine.
The coalition is the statewide voice of cyclists and pedestrians. Since 1992, the organization has led the effort to make Maine better for bicycling and walking by protecting the rights and safety of cyclists and pedestrians through education, advocacy, legislation and encouragement.
