PORTopera’s cast for its summer production of “Tosca” will feature Metropolitan Opera star James Morris, a sought-after bass-baritone in the opera world. PORTopera will present a staged concert of the Puccini opera July 30 at Merrill Auditorium.

Scenic effects will be created with lighting, and all of the music will be performed onstage. Portland resident and Tony Award winner Christopher Akerlind will design the lighting. Stephen Lord, named by Opera News as one of the 25 Most Powerful Names in U.S. Opera, will conduct. Dona D. Vaughn directs.

Morris, who plays Scarpia, performed at the Metropolitan Opera this season as Hans Sachs in Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger von Nuremburg.” He has sung in nearly every international opera house and appeared with the major orchestras of Europe and the United States.

The cast also includes soprano Alexandra LoBianco as Tosca; tenor Adam Diegel as Cavaradossi; baritone Robert Mellon as Angelotti; and bass-baritone Thomas Hammons as the Sacristan.
