Talya Edlund, of Cape Elizabeth, was honored as Cumberland County’s Teacher of the Year Thursday at the Maine State House.

Edlund is a teacher at Pond Cove Elementary School.

Senator Rebecca Millett of Cape Elizabeth whose son was in Edlund’s second grade class, said “I have first hand knowledge of Ms. Edlund’s wonderful ability to inspire her students to learn and explore. My son blossomed with her as his teacher in second grade.”

Edlund and 15 other teachers received the County Teacher of the Year award. The teachers are now in the running for the 2016 Maine Teacher of the Year award to be named and honored in the fall. The program honoring teachers is sponsored by the Maine Department of Education and administered by Educate Maine.
