MILLINOCKET — Police are investigating the death of a 6-month-old baby boy in Millinocket.

Maine State police spokesman Steve McCausland said the infant’s mother called 911 on Tuesday after she found the baby unresponsive inside their Katahdin Avenue residents.

The boy was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Millinocket and then transferred by helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He died Tuesday afternoon.

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday in Augusta, McCausland said, but he said there was no timeline on determining a cause of death.

Although police identified the boy and his mother, the Press Herald is withholding their names pending the outcome of the investigation.

No other details were released.
