A Saco woman who allegedly stole more than $37,000 from an elderly blind man has been arrested on theft charges.

In a news release issued Monday night, York County Sheriff William King Jr. said Susan Sajecki, 52, withdrew money from the 78-year-old disabled man’s bank account and made unauthorized charges to his credit card. The withdrawals and charges amounted to more than $37,000, according to King.

The investigation began after the sheriff’s office received information that suspicious checks were being withdrawn from the Saco man’s bank account. The man, who is is house-bound, told police that he did not authorize the checks or the use of his credit card.

King said Deputy Shawn Sanborn apprehended Sajecki at her home and interviewed her about the allegations. King said Sajecki admitted to stealing the man’s money and offered to make restitution.

Sajecki was held in the York County Jail on $5,000 bail on the theft charge and $645 bail for a warrant charging her with unpaid fines. She is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in York County Superior Court.
