OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Matt Hurley tossed six strong innings and the Old Orchard Beach offense scored multiple runs in three different innings as the Seagulls took down North Yarmouth Academy 12-2 in six innings on Thursday.

Hurley struck out five NYA batters and allowed just three hits in the victory, which was his first of the season.

OOB would score five runs in the second, three more in the fourth and four in the sixth to close the game out.

Dylan Creswell led OOB’s offense with two hits and Hurley helped himself with a double and three RBIs.

Logan Melnick and Brian Davis each had a hit and two RBIs for the Seagulls, who also got hits from Thomas Fregeau, Sam Custeau, John Gillis and Dustin Brown.

Brown and Fregeau each had a steal and Mason Beaudoin, Custeau, Gillis and Fregeau had one RBI apiece for the Seagulls.

OOB improved to 4-5 with the win, while NYA dropped to 1-8 on the season.

Girls Lacrosse

THORNTON 6, SCARBOROUGH 5

SCARBOROUGH — Faith Sinclair scored the game-winning goal with 9:11 left as visiting Thornton Academy edged Scarborough 6-5 in an Western Maine Class A girls lacrosse game Thursday.

Neither team had more than a one-goal advantage in the game, as the Trojans (3-3) led 3-2 at halftime.

The Red Storm (4-2) went up 4-3 on goals by Jamie Sargent and Bailey Adams.

Paige LeBlanc answered with a pair of goals for TA before Abby Corbin tied it back up for Scarborough, paving the way for Sinclair’s heroics.

It was Sinclair’s second goal of the game, which matched LeBlanc’s total, as well as Corbin.

SANFORD 16, MCAULEY 9

PORTLAND — Visiting Sanford jumped ahead 10-3 at halftime and eased to a 16-9 victory over McAuley in a Class A girls lacrosse game Thursday.

Maddie Leigh scored a game-high six goals for the Spartans (3-3), who also got three apiece from Monica Trausch and Liz Helmreich.

Eva Belanger stopped 17 shots for Sanford.

Kaeli Leddy led the Lions (2-3) with three goals, while Sophie Borie made four saves in goal.

Softball

FALMOUTH 8, WELLS 4

WELLS — A three-run fifth inning proved to be a big one for visiting Falmouth, as it separated the Yachtsmen from Wells for an 8-4 victory in a WMC softball game Thursday.

Falmouth (5-4) jumped on the board in the top of the first inning with a single run, then the teams traded off three-run frames in the third ”“ with the Warriors (4-6) benefitting from a two-run double by Sam Bogue in the bottom half.

The Yachtsmen plated three more in the fifth and the teams each scored one run apiece in the seventh for the final tally.

Julia Treadwell pitched a complete game to earn the win for Falmouth. She gave up seven hits while striking out five and walking four. She also combined with Maddie Rouhanna and Liza Walker for seven hits and five RBIs at the plate for the Yachtsmen.

Ali Duplisea collected two hits and two RBIs for Wells, and also pitched the first four innings.

Girls Tennis

FRYEBURG 3, KENNEBUNK 2

FRYEBURG — Jenna Kuun held on for a three-set win in No. 1 singles, but it wasn’t enough as Kennebunk lost to host Fryeburg Academy 3-2 in a WMC girls tennis match Thursday.

Kuun beat Fryeburg’s (2-4) Catherine Ashley 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 and Hannah Ingham beat Lucy Kneissler in No. 3 singles for Kennebunk’s (0-7) other point.

Boys and Girls Outdoor Track

Seagulls compete at Sacopee Valley

HIRAM — Erik Hogan took first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as Old Orchard Beach finished third out of four boys teams in a WMC track and field meet Thursday at Sacopee Valley High School.

The OOB girls team finished fourth out of four teams. Mackenzie Rague took second place in the long jump for the Seagulls.
