A man who initially appeared to have been seriously injured in a domestic assault Sunday apparently stabbed himself, causing superficial wounds, Portland police said Monday.

Police were called at 6:20 p.m. to the parking lot of a gas station at Forest and Harris avenues for a domestic dispute. Officers found a man in his 50s who appeared to be seriously injured, and another man and a woman.

The injured man was expected to be released from Maine Medical Center’s critical care unit Monday. Portland police are still investigating the incident and nobody has been charged.
