FALMOUTH — Adele Irene Waeldner, 92, of Falmouth, died May 28 at Maine Medical Center, in Portland.

She was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Jersey City, New Jersey, one of three daughters of Vincent Gburczyk and Jadwiga Kowaleski Gburczyk. She attended local schools and graduated from Bloomfield (New Jersey) High School. She then earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Jersey City State Teachers College.

In 1944, she married William J. Waeldner Jr. and together they had six children. Known for her kindness and relentless energy, Adele was always busy, raising her family, making a home for them, and often teaching in Catholic elementary schools. She was an active member of her church, and also taught religious education for many years.

In her youth, Waeldner pursued an interest in archery. Later, she enjoyed reading, walking and gardening, as well as sharing interesting, personal stories with her family.

Waeldner was predeceased by her son, James Waeldner, and wife, Liz, and two sisters, Virginia Burch and Bunnie Acton.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, William J. Waeldner Jr., of Falmouth; her daughter, Shoshana Israel, of Northport, Washington; her son, William J. Waeldner III, of Waverly, Pennsylvania; her son, Frederick Waeldner, and companion, Michael Bobick, of Brooklyn, New York, and Dalton, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Maria Smith, and husband, Warren, of Natick, Massachusetts; her son, Robert Waeldner, and wife, Brigid, of Yarmouth; her grandchildren, Sarah, Kelly, Laura, Ellen, Katie, Luke, Matt and Roxann; and her great-grandchildren, Liam, Emma, Molly and Jake.

A Mass of Christian burial was scheduled for Thursday, June 4, at 11 a.m., at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth, with a reception following.
