Portland police used a dog to track and apprehend a man who fled after being stopped on Pennell Avenue for a traffic violation Wednesday night.

Lt. Mike Jones said Colby Emmons, 31, of New York was stopped by Officer Christian Stickney around 8 p.m. Emmons opened the driver’s side door to his car and ran away, forcing Stickney to remain with the vehicle, which had two passengers.

When his backups arrived, Stickney and his dog Blaze tracked Emmons and found him hiding in bushes in the backyard of a home off White Birch Lane. Emmons was taken to the Cumberland County Jail, facing charges including violation of bail, failure to stop, refusing to submit to arrest and driving after license suspension.

There no weapons involved and no injuries reported, Jones said.
