SANFORD — Portland High will take the top seed into the Western Class A baseball tournament after holding on Thursday for a 5-4 victory against Sanford in an SMAA game at Goodall Park.

Dan Marzilli singled, then scored on a double by Ryan Ruhlin in the top of the seventh inning as the Bulldogs (12-4) opened a 5-0 lead.

But Sanford (3-13), which failed to make the tournament, didn’t go easily, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Eddie Michetti, Brad Bouchard and Tyler Burgess each hit RBI singles in the seventh for Sanford, which left the bases loaded to end the game.

Jake Knop, Pat Sheils and John Williams had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs. Sheils had an RBI double during a three-run fourth.

Michetti finished with a pair of hits for the Spartans.

BONNY EAGLE 4, WESTBROOK 2: Max Salevsky hit a two-run single during a three-run third inning and added an RBI single in the fifth to lift the Scots (11-5) over the Blue Blazes (6-10) at Standish.

Kyle Labrecque of Bonny Eagle gave up two runs, none earned, on four hits, striking out two and walking one.

Christian Napolitano went 1 for 2 with a run and stole three bases for the Scots.

David Henrickson had a pair of hits and drove in a run for Westbrook.

HALL-DALE 12, BOOTHBAY REGION 1: Cole Lockhart allowed one run, and the Bulldogs (11-5) broke open a close game with an eight-run fourth inning to defeat the Seahawks (0-16) in five innings at Boothbay Harbor.

Bobby Cumler, Sam Moulton and Brian Allen doubled for Hall-Dale.

WINTHROP 8, DIRIGO 6: Matt Ingram drove in five runs and Mario Meucci got on base five times to lead Winthrop (14-2) over Dirigo (15-1) at Dixfield.

The Ramblers won the Mountain Valley Conference championship for the first time since 2008 and will enter the Western Class C tournament as the No. 2 seed.

SOFTBALL

OAK HILL 24, WISCASSET 0: Makayla Nadeau doubled and tripled to lead the Raiders (9-7) over the Wolverines (1-15) at Wiscasset.

Grace Sabine also had two doubles for Oak Hill.

ERSKINE ACADEMY 16, MORSE 2: Avery Bond had two doubles and a single, and Amber Grady also doubled as the Eagles (9-7) cruised past Morse (8-8) at Bath.

Erskine scored eight runs in the first inning.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

KENNEBUNK 15, GREELY 10: Jenny Bush had six goals and an assist for the Rams (11-1), who pulled away from the Rangers (4-8) in the second half at Kennebunk.

Kyra Schwartzman and Olivia Sanford added three goals apiece for Kennebunk.

Ellie Schad led Greely with three goals. Maegan Dougherty scored two.

YARMOUTH 15, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 3: Shannon Fallon scored five goals and Emma Torres added four to pace the visiting Clippers (8-4) against the Panthers (1-11) at Yarmouth.

Mary Noyes, Isabella Munro and Anna Laprise scored for the Panthers, and Scout Fishchman finished with 14 saves.

WINSLOW 11, ERSKINE ACADEMY 7: Cassidy Roderick scored five goals as Winslow (7-5) toppled Erskine Academy (1-11) at South China. Christina Hodgkins and Katelyn Darveau each had two goals for the Eagles.

CONY 15, OXFORD HILLS 10: Becca Conniff, Erin Alexander and Hilary Tyler each scored three goals to lead Cony (1-11) over Oxford Hills (2-10) at Augusta.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

WELLS 6, NOBLE 4: Noah Pease scored twice to lead the Warriors (4-8) over the Knights (4-8) at North Berwick.
