CENTER HARBOR, N.H. – Police say a 27-year-old man hit a police chief with his vehicle and drove off during a traffic stop in central New Hampshire.

Authorities tell WMUR-TV Chief Mark Chase saw a vehicle parked in an unusual manner Saturday night in the parking lot of the Center Harbor baseball fields. When he stepped out of his cruiser to talk to the driver, police say the man sped away and hit him with his car. Chase was not seriously injured and was treated at the scene.

The driver, identified as Matthew McKeen of Laconia, eventually was found in another crash in Meredith and was arrested on multiple charges, including disobeying a police officer. He was to be arraigned Monday; it wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
