Portland police have released a sketch of the man they believe tried to rob a woman with a knife on June 5.

Police said they are looking for a black man, 20 to 30 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a goatee and a short buzz-style haircut. He was wearing black baggy jeans, a navy blue T-shirt and a black hooded sweatshirt.

A 35-year-old Cumberland woman told police she was walking to her car in the parking lot at 106 Gilman St., near Maine Medical Center, at 2:45 p.m. Friday when a man approached her. He asked for money and threatened her with a knife after she said she had nothing to give him. The woman again told the man she didn’t have any money and continued to her car, where she had a handgun. She pointed the gun at the man and told him to leave her alone. The man then left and the woman drove away and later reported the incident to police.
