A fire of unknown origin destroyed a small two-bedroom rental home in the Lincoln County town of Nobleboro on Thursday.

Fire Chief Ryan Gallagher said the house at 724 West Neck Road was engulfed in flames by the time he arrived, around 4:12 p.m.

Gallagher said the occupant of the home, Eben Keler, was at work when the fire broke out. His pet iguana was killed.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office sent an investigator to the home, but could not determine the cause of the fire because the damage was so extensive.

Gallagher said the fire does not appear to be suspicious. Crews from five neighboring fire departments responded.
