AUGUSTA — All Maine State Parks and Historic Sites are free to the public in celebration of Father’s Day.

State officials say all vehicles bearing Maine license plates will receive free admission at 48 state-owned locations on Sunday. Gov. Paul LePage issued a proclamation designating June as “Great Outdoors Month” in the state.

The free admission does not apply to Baxter State Park, the Maine Wildlife Park, Peacock Beach, Scarborough Beach, Swan Island, the Penobscot Narrows Observatory or the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.

Fort Knox State Historic Site will be free.
