The body of a man was discovered Tuesday by a lobsterman in Taunton Bay near Mt. Desert Island and authorities suspect it’s a man who has been missing since June 19.

The Maine Marine Patrol recovered the body in Upper Taunton Bay, north of the Hancock Sullivan Bridge near Butler Point, according to a press release.

Authorities believe the body to be that of Matthew LaForest, 28, of Ellsworth, who was reported missing and was last seen near Taunton Bay, the release said. His car was found parked at a scenic turnout in Hancock near the bridge.

The marine patrol searched the area for a week and a half from the air and from the water.

The body was taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Augusta Wednesday for an autopsy to confirm the identity.
