CAPE ELIZABETH — Dunkin’ Donuts is now a sponsor of the TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race and will add $23,000 in prize money.

The 18th annual race will be held this year on Aug. 1. The prize money from the coffee chain will be awarded to the top American runners.

“We are so grateful to the local Dunkin’ Donuts business owners for joining us this year and adding this exciting and transformative new element to the race,” race President Mike Stone said in a press release this week. “The generous support that we receive from our sponsors, both new and returning, is vital to our mission.”

The $23,000 will be split among the top five American men and women. First place runners will receive $5,000, second place $3,000, third place $2,000, fourth place $1,000, and fifth place $500.

A total of $90,000 will be awarded at the road race this year. The race’s main sponsor, TD Bank, gives prizes to the top 10 men and top 10 women runners.

“The stature of this race would not be maintained without the continued support we receive from all of our sponsors,” Stone said. “We can’t thank them enough.”

Other new sponsors include MEMIC, Wyman’s of Maine, the Holden Agency, and WinXNet. MEMIC will be the race’s official safety sponsor.

On race day, Dunkin’ Donuts will be at Fort Williams Park, where the race ends, selling coffee and food to raise money for this year’s race beneficiary, Good Shepherd Food Bank. The announcement of the beneficiary, which will receive $30,000 from TD Bank, was made in February.

“The efforts of the Good Shepherd Food Bank provided more than 17 million meals to Mainers facing hunger last year, which is an astounding achievement,” TD Bank President Larry Wold said in a press release. “We are happy to partner with such an amazing and essential organization that supports Maine and we welcome them aboard.”

More than 6,000 runners are expected to take part in the 6.2-mile race that begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, on Route 77 near Crescent Beach State Park. The finish line is at Portland Head Light in Fort Williams.
