A survey by CheapHotels.org places Maine in two of the top five most expensive hotel locations in New England.

The survey, released Thursday, compares the room rates of hotels with at least a two-star rating in 30 New England destinations from July 1 through Aug. 31.

Provincetown, Massachusetts, took top place with an average of $247 per night for a double room, but it was followed closely by Kennebunkport ($234) in the No. 2 spot and Portland ($223) in the No. 5 spot. Ogunquit’s average of $187 came in ninth.

Rounding out the top 10 were Newport, Rhode Island ($226); Chatham, Massachusetts ($225); Boston ($213); Cambridge, Massachusetts ($207); Martha’s Vineyard ($189); and Falmouth, Massachusetts ($164).

The rankings were based on the average cost of each location’s cheapest available double room, according to CheapHotels’ news release. The prices reflect the minimum amount travelers would have to spend to stay at a certain destination this summer.
